Our most impressive model in diameter 100 mm, the 'Carnac' decorative and structural column or pillar, is also one of the nicest we have. It is perfectly balanced, thanks to its classic and 'legacy' ornamental end-pieces which are nice examples of authentic and traditional decorative castings. Sturdy but elegant, massive but stylish, it will perfectly fit in sea-side or mountain environments for the realization or the embellishment of such projects as terraces, verandas, pergolas, porches or balconies, kiosks, gazebos and the like..
It is also well-suited for arcades or for heavy renovation or decoration works. It is very easy to install, and requires no maintenance at all, once lacquered.
Our architectural and decorative columns, the shafts of which are in thick extruded aluminium, are approximately as load-bearing as traditional cast iron columns. This model in 2.5 m will bear loads to 8.7 tons, or 10.0 tons if filled with concrete.
The small town of Carnac is located on the 'Golfe du Morbihan', in the Morbihan French department. It has five nice and really long beaches, sailing districts, and attracts many surfers with its widely renowned 'spots'. One thing not to miss in Carnac are its renowned oysters, that are harvested and bred locally.
But its main attraction is its huge and very impressive concentration of more than 3.300 'Menhirs', high and extremely heavy vertical stones dating back to 3.000 years BC. It is unknown which human group erected these stones. A comparable site exists in England, in Stonehenge, next to Salisbury. This site hosts only 500 'Menhirs' but it seems more 'recent' than the one of Carnac. Both are really beautiful and impressive altogether.
Our 'Carnac' model makes very solid and impressive decorative columns, entirely manufactured in our Belgian aluminium foundry, using the traditional and very ancient sand-casting process. The true Belgian quality, for an European Classic style product.
