Arles is a town in the Bouches-du-Rhône department in the south of France. We found our inspiration for the design of this decorative column in a nice little cloister just outside the town. Arles was home to Vincent van Gogh during two years at the end of the 19th century. He was so inspired by this place, its welcoming and hospitable inhabitants and its superb surroundings that he managed to produce some 200 paintings during this brief lapse of time (including several 'Arlésiennes' in their nice traditional clothes).
